ProGen was commissioned to provide a full turnkey electrical services package for the fit-out of the new Halcyon Gallery within luxury department store, Harrods, in Knightsbridge, London. The gallery features world-class artworks by great masters including Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso, as well as celebrated living artists such as Bob Dylan, Dale Chihuly, Lorenzo Quinn, Paul Cummins, and Russell Young.

The Challenge

The new gallery required ProGen to provide the electrical services turnkey package to an exceptionally high standard in order to showcase the millions of pounds worth of art within the space.

The prestigious department store would need to be open during the fit-out, so disruption had to be kept to an absolute minimum.

The tight timescales needed for this project also added to these logistical challenges, requiring intense co-ordination with the other service contractors onsite.

The Solution

Given the extensive experience ProGen’s project management team has within high-end installations in Central London, the challenges posed by this project were overcome.

Full design, along with design interface with suppliers and specialist sub-contractors, was managed, coordinated and executed successfully by ProGen. ProGen were required to design and build all electrical systems under the constraints of Harrods’ technical project specification.

The full extent of Progen’s design & installation responsibility included:

• Co-ordination and Design

ProGen’s in-house design team provided a full design of the electrical and automation systems, avoiding any clashes from other trades services.

• Lighting Infrastructure

With ProGen providing full cabling and installation of the lighting package throughout, the final outcome was stunning. The high-end lighting chosen was expertly installed by ProGen.

• Power

ProGen provided the full power infrastructure throughout. The cabling and containment was expertly installed to the high expectations of the client.

• Automation

With all high-end installation, the automation of the lighting and control of services is an essential part of the project. ProGen provided management of external specialist contractors and provided the base cabling to allow for the automation of all the electrical infrastructure throughout the gallery.

• Fire Alarm

ProGen provided full fire alarm cabling and containment within the gallery, ensure it was integrated with the store’s systems.

• Data Services

ProGen provided the full CAT 6 cabling and containment within the gallery. The data cabling was installed along with specialist accessories to match the style of the gallery space.

The Outcome

The project was completed on time and within the client’s budget. The gallery proudly showcased the art within the space, with all the high-end requirements of the Harrods flagship store achieved.
