ProGen was commissioned to deliver comprehensive Design and Build services for the Associated British Ports (ABP) at King’s Lynn. The primary objective was to provide essential mechanical and electrical (M&E) infrastructure, specifically focusing on the power, lighting, and water services required for the new Salt Shed Store.
Key Challenges
Delivering a full turnkey solution within an active port environment presented unique logistical hurdles. The project required the provision of full M&E services including high- capacity power distribution, extensive exterior and interior lighting, and complex water mains excavation. A critical challenge was ensuring all electrical installations were designed to withstand the corrosive nature of the salt storage environment, requiring high-specification materials and strict adherence to safety protocols during the excavation and installation phases.
The Solution
- Power & Distribution: A full electrical distribution network was designed and installed to support the facility’s machinery and general operations. This included the installation of main switchgear and sub-distribution boards tailored to the load requirements of the site.
- Specialised Lighting: High-efficiency lighting systems were installed throughout the salt shed and surrounding areas to ensure safety and visibility for 24/7 port operations.
- Water Mains Installation: A comprehensive water mains system was excavated and installed to service the site, ensuring reliable water access for both operational use and safety requirements.
