Edina awarded a CHP contract to ProGen, which included the full turnkey provision of HV and LV electrical services to a 2MWe rated MWM manufactured reciprocating gas engine.

Cranbrook’s district heating network will transport heat generated from the energy centre’s CHP plant to homes and buildings, initially consisting of 2,900 residential properties, rising to up to 6,551 properties by 2027. The heat network will provide an affordable supply of heating and hot water on demand, removing the need for individual property boilers, and therefore eliminating maintenance or replacement costs.

The Challenge

ProGen was tasked with providing a full turnkey provision of HV and LV electrical services to a gas engine. The main challenge encountered during the completion of this project was ensuring we caused minimal disruption to the properties the energy centre serves.

The Solution

ProGen has been providing Edina with turnkey installation services for a number of years. Through working close with Edina, we have a good understanding of our client demand and so could make sure the project ran as smoothly as possible.

The full extent of ProGen’s design & installation responsibility included:

• Co-ordination and design

ProGen provided a full design of the HV and LV electrical systems, and with our in-house design team we avoided any clashes from other services existing on site.

• HV Infrastructure

ProGen provided the full HV infrastructure for the works, which included HV cable containment and cabling with removal. The termination and jointing of the HV cabling was also provided in-house.

• LV Distribution

All LV cabling and containment was provided within ProGen’s package, along with the installation of a new LV switchgear and commissioning.

• Lighting

ProGen provided full cabling and installation of the lighting package throughout the plant rooms.

• Fire and security

Progen provided Edina a full fire and security package, which was supplied and installed to the exact requirements of the specification

The Outcome

Following the successful completion of this project, ProGen has secured further CHP projects and continues to work with Edina on a number of projects across the UK.
