Project Overview
Project Value: £270,000.00
Location: Paddington Village Liverpool
Project type: Industrial
Liverpool’s Paddington Village development, the UK’s largest new health and science campus, utilises an underground heating network that helps cut the city’s carbon footprint.
The energy centre for the village was constructed on the ground floor of the new 14-storey carpark, situated off Elm Grove, and houses a 1,195-kWh combined heat and power engine which provides both electricity and heat throughout the village. The heat and power generated is distributed throughout the 30-acre site via a network of buried services.
The Challenge
ProGen was delighted to be working with Vital Energi Utilities Limited on another high-profile project. With ProGen’s HV services all provided in-house and with having worked with Vital Energi before, we were a natural partner for Vital on this project.
The Solution
ProGen provided the full turnkey HV distribution network through the site in the heart of Liverpool city centre, which involved all aspects of HV works such as design, installation, commissioning and energisation.
The full extent of ProGen’s design and installation responsibility included:
- Co-ordination and Design
ProGen’s in-house design team provided a full design of the HV electrical systems, avoiding any clashes from other services existing on site.
- HV Infrastructure
ProGen provided the full HV infrastructure for the works, which included HV cable containment and cabling with removal, and the termination and jointing of the HV cabling.
- HV Substation Fit-out
The new HV substation was fitted out with lighting and power by ProGen to the exact specifications provided by western power networks.
The Outcome
The project was a success and an excellent example of how ProGen can manage a city centre HV installation with all the challenges brought by working in a confined location.
