Greenyard, Vegetable Mixing Line

Project Description

Project Overview

Project Value: £1.8M
Location: Greenyard Kings Lynn, Vegetable Mixing Line
Project type: Industrial

Greenyard is a global market leader of fresh, frozen and prepared fruit, vegetables, flowers and plants. Their food processing site in Kings Lynn was in desperate need of an expansion to their vegetable processing capabilities. This included requirements for a brand-new mixing hall, complete with offices and QA labs.

The Challenge

As a part of this brief, ProGen was commissioned to provide full electrical and mechanical services, which included automation cabling and pipework for a new multi-function mixing line within a new purpose-built mixing hall at their site in Kings Lynn. This project not only included the installation of mixing lines, but also the M&E services to new offices, changing rooms, a QA lab and toilets – all houses within the new purpose-built mixing hall.

As this was such an in-depth project, we had to work as efficiently as possible to ensure we completed the work on time and to the highest standard.

The Solution

ProGen was commissioned to provide the full M&E works on the new mixing lines and the services within the new mixing hall.

Key deliverables of equipment supply was an ever-challenging demand to the contract and programming of activities due to the very tight constraints of the site and available working areas.

However, with the extensive experience of ProGen’s project management and site teams, full design along with interface with suppliers and specialist sub-contractors was managed, coordinated and executed successfully.

The full extent of ProGen’s design & installation responsibility included:

  • Co-ordination and Design

ProGen provided full design of the MEP systems, with our in-house design team avoiding any clashes from other services existing on site. A full 3D design of the installation was produced, which allowed for the accurate manufacture of pipe spools and bracketry throughout.

  • Piping Infrastructure

ProGen provided the full piping infrastructure for the works, which included pipe bracketry and gantries, all manufactured within ProGen’s fabrication work shop and erected on site. The pumps and valves were all designed and erected by ProGen’s mechanical team.

  • Automation

With full cabling and containment throughout the mixing lines and connection of new control panels throughout, automation was provided throughout the lines.

  • Data Services

ProGen provided the full Cat 6 cabling and containment within the offices and veg lines. The data cabling was installed along with the specialist accessories.

  • LV Distribution

All LV cabling and containment was also provided within ProGen’s package, along with the installation of a new LV switchgear and commissioning.

  • Lighting

ProGen provided full cabling and installation of the lighting package throughout the mixing hall.

  • Fire and Security

ProGen provided a full fire and security package, which was supplied and installed to the exact requirements of the specification.

The Outcome

The process lines and offices were successfully completed, and the project handed over to Greenyard on time and on budget. This led to successful pea season for the business.
