Located in Scotland, Leven generation CHP site provides the local electrical network with a 20MWe Short Term Operating Reserve (STOR) site.
This project was located deep in the highlands of Scotland, which provided ProGen with logistical challenges as well as the usual time constraints of getting a CHP site up and running to support the national grid as soon as possible. The site build meant the gas engines were positioned within the building, with all services built on site around them.
With all the specialist services needed for the project available in-house, ProGen was commissioned by Edina to provide the full turnkey solution for all HV, LV and control network services to support the project.
The full extent of ProGen’s design and installation responsibility included:
- Co-ordination and Design
ProGen provided a full design of the HV and LV electrical systems, with our in-house design team avoiding any clashes from other services existing on site.
- HV Infrastructure
ProGen provided the full HV infrastructure for the works, which included HV cable containment and cabling with removal and the termination and jointing of the HV cabling.
- LV Distribution
All LV cabling and containment was also provided within ProGen’s package, along with the installation of a new LV switchgear and commissioning.
ProGen provided full cabling and installation of the lighting package throughout the compound area.
- Fire and Security
ProGen provided Edina a full fire and security package, which was supplied and installed to the exact requirements of the specification.
- Gas Detection
ProGen provided a full ATEX gas detection system throughout the gas engine containers.
- HV Substation Fit-out
The new HV substation was fitted out with lighting and power by ProGen to the exact specifications provided by power networks.
The project was completed to the tight timescales set by the client with all CHP engines supporting the grid on the date required.
